My name is Ricardo Monge and I am a Mixed Media Artist working with the mediums I love…painting, photography, printmaking and graphic design.
I was born in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico, where I lived until graduating college with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts (BFA) from the University of Puerto Rico. After graduation, I got accepted to Pratt Institute in New York to complete my Master’s degree program in Fine Arts (MFA), majoring in printmaking and multi-media (graphic design, photography & video). Once I completed my degree, I was eager to change surroundings and gain professional experience as an artist and graphic designer. In order to do so, I decided to move London, travel Europe and experience the richness of different cultures evoking my Latin Heritage.
Living in Puerto Rico, New York and London, in addition to several artist residencies in Skopelos, Greece, fostered an experimental attitude that attracted me to work and combine a variety of media (painting, printmaking, photography/video and graphic design), ultimately integrating these into my creative language. My diversified background and exposure to these new experiences defined my point of view of the world today.
My range of imagery deal fundamentally with the subject matter of identity (ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, childhood, class), shaped by an individual perspective. My work is deeply influenced by personal memories, dreams, dolls and most recently icons that inspired me growing up.
Enjoy my visual journey...
